Children can join Beavers after their 6th Birthday and stay until they are between 7 ¾ and 8 years. Once your child has attended Beavers for about 6 weeks they will be invested. Before they can be invested you will need to buy the welcome pack which includes uniform, neckerchief, badges and Beaver log book. Once purchased, the neckerchief and badges stay with the child in their progress though the group. Parents are welcome to attend the investiture ceremony and to take photos to put in the Beaver log book.

Beaver sessions are the least structured of all the sections and the emphasis is on having fun whilst starting on their way through the Scout family and working for badges. The top award in Beavers is the Bronze Chief Scout’s award and Beavers will start working on this a few months before they move up to Cubs. Beavers run a parent rota which everyone has a turn on. The parent helper should help out with the activities as required by the leader and also do a quick clean in the toilet area at the end of the night.

Beavers usually have a day trip to join the Cubs at their annual camp. They do not stay over but it gives a good flavour of camp to whet their appetite for  when they move in to Cubs.

At some time around their 8th birthday Beavers will start their moving up to Cubs which culminates with a ‘swim up’ on the 4th week. This is a small ceremony which parents are welcome to attend and take photos if they like.
