Children can join Cubs any time from their 8th Birthday and stay until between 10 ½ and 11 years depending on the Cub. Once a Cub has  attended meetings for around 4 weeks they will be invested into the Pack. This is a ceremony that parents are welcome to attend.

Cubs is more structured than Beavers. The Cubs are arranged into Sixes - groups of Cubs under the leadership of an older Cub called a Sixer. Each pack has 4 Sixes, all named after colours.  We have a formal opening and closing ceremony and a competitive points system is run. Cubs is based on the story of the Jungle book and the Leaders are know by names of the animals. The Cub leader is known as Akela and other names that we use are Baloo and Chil.

The Cub leaders work as a single team and the 2 packs run the same programme and the points competition is also run between the packs.  Both packs run a parent rota. As with the Beavers parents are asked to help out with whatever the Cubs are doing. They should also help prepare snack, clean up after snack and clean the toilets at the end of the evening.

There is usually an annual Cub camp, which is held within 1 hours drive of Mosstodloch. This is a big part of being a Cub and all Cubs are encouraged to attend. It is possible for younger Cubs to attend for a day if they prefer but it is a great experience to spend time under canvas with their friends and we encourage all Cubs to come to camp at some time.

Cubs have a whole range of badges to achieve, some of which are done at Cubs and some that can be worked on independently. The top award available for Cubs is the Chief Scout’s Silver award. Cubs start working towards this after their tenth birthday, although they will already have some of the badges that go towards it before then. Only Cubs who have been to camp are eligible for the Silver Award.

Once a Cub reaches 10½  they can start their moving on to Scouts award and at the end of the 4 weeks there is a moving up ceremony  which parents can attend.
